Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin in Pleasanton

We use Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin. All three are botulinum toxin type A and all three relax the muscle that creates a line. An effect settles in over several days and lasts up to about four months.
Why we keep three
The differences between them are small, and none of them is the better product. Dysport tends to spread a little further from each point, which can suit a broad forehead. Xeomin carries no complexing proteins. Jeuveau was developed for cosmetic use alone.
In practice the choice comes down to the area being treated and how you have responded before, which is why it is worth saying at consultation what you have had and what you thought of it.
When we recommend it
- Frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet that show at rest
- Lines you notice in photographs before you notice them in the mirror
- Softening rather than erasing, where expression still needs to read
- Excessive underarm sweating
When we would choose something else
A line etched into the skin after years of movement will soften but not disappear, and is often better treated alongside resurfacing or a small amount of filler. Heaviness from descent rather than movement is a different problem, and relaxing muscle can make it read lower rather than lighter.
We would not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is a neuromuscular condition affecting the muscles concerned.
Excessive sweating
The same injections placed in the underarm reduce sweating for several months at a time. It is worth considering if antiperspirants have not been enough, and it is usually planned ahead of summer rather than during it.
What to expect
Treatment takes a few minutes with a very fine needle. Small raised points settle within an hour, and any bruising is uncommon and minor. The effect appears over two to five days and is fully settled by two weeks, which is when we would review it if anything needs adjusting.
