What is IV Therapy?

Intravenous (IV) vitamin therapy (also known as intravenous micronutrient therapy and hydration therapy) is a way to give high concentrations of vitamins and minerals directly into the bloodstream, allowing rapid absorption of higher doses of the vitamins and minerals than if the person got them through food or supplements.

How does it work? What is the procedure like? 

IV vitamin therapy can administer a high concentration of minerals and vitamins directly into the bloodstream rather than through the stomach where absorption is slower and more variable.

During the procedure, a cannula will be placed into your vein. The area will be sanitized and then a fine needle attached to a cannula will be inserted into your vein. The cannula will be secured with medical tape or tegaderm. The selected combination of vitamins and minerals for your choice of IV therapy will be diluted in 500ml or 1000mls of Normal Saline (0.9% Sodium Chloride) and then attached to the cannula via IV tubing. The IV insertion site will be checked to ensure proper flow with no pain or swelling to the area. Once the IV therapy infusion is completed, the IV tubing will be disconnected from the cannula and the cannula removed from the vein. Pressure and bandage will be applied to the insertion site to promote clotting and slow any bleeding.
