What it is for

Recovery
The skin is red and warm on the day, and rough to the touch for a few days after. Makeup usually goes back on at around day three.
It is given as a short series several weeks apart, because scarring in particular improves cumulatively rather than in one pass.
When we would choose something else
If the only concern is laxity and the skin surface is fine, XERF or Thermage give firmness without the recovery.
If the concern is pigment rather than texture, a laser treats it more directly.
Active acne, active infection and a recent course of oral isotretinoin are reasons to wait.
