About Skin Tag & Mole Removal

Mole Removal

Moles form when the cells responsible for producing melanin (melanocytes) build up into clusters, forming a brown growth on the skin. This can take away from your complexion and skin texture. In some cases, moles can be an early indicator of skin cancer. As a result, many patients wish to remove moles and restore smoother-looking skin.

There are 3 main types of moles:

  • Congenital Moles: Moles you have had since you were born.
  • Acquired Moles: Moles that have appeared over time.
  • Atypical Moles: Irregular moles that are potentially cancerous.

Many moles are benign, but others may be malignant and can lead to skin cancer. All moles should be properly evaluated by a board certified dermatologist before considering mole removal.

During mole removal surgery, the growth is excised from the skin. A small amount of local anesthesia is typically used to minimize discomfort. Your dermatologist will surgically remove the mole and as little healthy tissue as possible.

Skin Tag Removal

Skin tags are small growths that consist of flaps of hanging skin attached to a small stalk of tissue. These skin growths are often bothersome for patients, as they can detract from your appearance and cause irritation. Skin tags are non-cancerous growths, but they should still be examined by a dermatologist before undergoing skin tag removal.

During skin tag removal surgery, either a topical or local anesthetic can be used. Your skin tag can be surgically removed while leaving the surrounding skin intact.
